James Reyes

James Reyes, Captain/Paramedic
EMS Coordinator, Idyllwild Fire Protection District

James Reyes began his career in EMS in 1985.  As an EMT, he worked for Medevac Ambulance Service in El Monte, California and then Risher Ambulance, based out of Montebello, California.

After finishing paramedic school at Crafton Hills College at the age of 22, he began working for Springs Ambulance in the Palm Springs area, and held three concurrent paramedic certifications in Los Angeles, ICEMA and Riverside counties for the next two years.  He was hired at the Idyllwild Fire Protection District in 1989.

Reyes has worked his way up from Firefighter-trainee/Paramedic to Captain/Paramedic during his 18-year career at the IFPD.  He has held the positions of Clinical EMS Education Coordinator, Deputy Fire Marshal and acting Chief.  He currently holds the position of EMS Coordinator in charge of all EMT and Paramedic activities.

James has taught the EMT-basic class at Mt. San Jacinto Communtiy College and for the Riverside County Fire Chiefs’ Association from 1991 until 2004.  He is also an American Heart Association CPR/AED instructor and oversees the CERT program in the communities of Idyllwild and Pine Cove.

He is blessed with a beautiful wife, Donna, and four wonderful children:  Christopher, Michael, Celeste and Damien.  He attributes his success in life to God, his savior Jesus Christ and his family.
